We pride ourselves on our Waterfowl Dogs. If a duck dog is what you want we can teach them all they need to know. We train dogs with the clients desired goals in mind. Our program contains all the obedience program skills and then more. We have two programs, basic waterfowl training and advanced waterfowl training.
Basic Waterfowl Training: Everything within the basic obedience training plus steadiness to shot, heeling, single and double marks, water retrieves and delivery to hand.
Month 1
Test the drives of the dog and their natural
ability.
Nose-tracking – fun and easy.
Retrieving – land and water.
Live birds – pigeon or quail.
Intro to the gun.
Obedience: heel, sit or whoa, come, kennel, and down.
Month 2
Extend tracking and retrieving on land and in water.
Shoot a variety of birds – pigeons, pheasants, chukkers, huns, and quail.
Keep the dog birdy!
Encourage retrievers to hand – start hold and packing if needed.
Start to steady on point or in the blind.
Mix – fly away birds, birds shot and retrieving, tracking for cripples.
Start force fetching if needed.
Multiple retrieves.
Month 3
Waterfowl
Steady in the blind – when shooting.
Intro – decoys. Also boat if needed
Extend multiple retrieves.
Short blind retrieves.
Always deliver to hand.
Advanced
Waterfowl
Will sit on flushed upland birds.
Honor another dog’s point.
Water searches – swimming.
Hand signals – stop on whistle.
